Fix Naenae Pool

Fix Naenae Pool

This petition calls on the Hutt City Council to bring forward the currently planned and budgeted upgrade to Naenae Pool in response to the recent closure of the Learners’ pool due to being classed as earthquake prone. The refurbishment of the Naenae Pool complex is currently scheduled for 2020 and is already well and truly overdue.
Without taking this action the outcomes are clear and entirely negative.
- Young children unable to access the lessons they need to be swim safe.
- A long period of congestion and over-crowding at other Hutt City Council owned pools.
- Families who make regular use of the pool will be forced to travel to Huia, Stokes Valley, or Wainuiomata at a cost that will make many unable to afford the social, physical and health benefits of pool use.
The impact on the local and wider Hutt Valley community who use the pool can be minimised if the Hutt City Council makes a courageous and decisive move to improve this asset as soon as possible.
We ask that Council:
i) Agrees that fixing Naenae’s learners’ pool building, and any other structural issues within the Naenae Pool Complex, is a top priority;
ii) brings forward the 2020 budget for a refurbishment of Naenae Pool, and a report on any unbudgeted costs given the recent news that the learners’ pool building is earthquake prone. This work must be completed and reported back as soon as possible.
