Rachael Rowland started this petition to Huntsville City Schools School Board

This petition was created to have the students in Huntsville City Schools sign it and convince the school board to change the dress code. Currently, the dress code for shorts is “approaching mid thigh length” which is practically impossible for any girl to be able to find because they are still growing. After this petition gets 100+ signatures, it will be presented to the school board with a plea to change the dress code. This is an important cause because there are people walking to school, during a heat advisory, in long pants because they physically cannot find shorts long enough to wear to school. Other times, the dress code has made teenagers uncomfortable to wear shorts at all, even outside of school. The dress code enforces the idea that girls should not be able to wear the clothes they are happy with, but instead conform with society’s standards instead. This is not the example we want our city to set— the faster we get enough signatures, the faster we can make a change to our city for the better!
