Say No to Class B Recycling Facility in Bethlehem Township

We, the residents of Hunterdon County, are opposed to the Hunterdon County Freeholders approving the property at 1087 Rt 173 to allow a Class B Recycling facility to be included in the county master recycling plan. This proposed recycling facility is in a mountain residential zone and is a Highlands preservation and protected wetlands area, which feeds water into the wells of our residents and the Spruce Run Reservoir. This area needs to be protected not exploited. There is also no need for this recycling center because there are 3 other Class B recycling centers located in Hunterdon County, one which is only 3.5 miles away from the proposed site. That current site is not over capacity but would suffer financially from another recycling center so close by. Two sites so close together also multiplies the risk to the environment should any contaminants get into the water supply or air, as well as the traffic impacts, noise nuisances, and decreased property values. There is also strong opposition to include the tire recycling due to health and environmental concerns because it is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a risk of tire fires.
