Hunter's Main Entrance Should Be for Everyone

Hunter's Main Entrance Should Be for Everyone
Why this petition matters
Recently, our principal Dr. Tony Fisher and assistant principal Maysa Antonio announced that the HCHS main entrance on 94th Street could only be used for entry by visitors, adults, and 7th graders. Students in grades 8-12 are to use the basement courtyard entrance to enter the building throughout the day.
We believe that this is an unfair situation for a majority of the student body; a "solution" to something that was never a problem. Having all students, faculty, visitors, etc, was not a problem last year and even in years before lockdown. Instead, this policy only creates more inconveniences and inequalities with students being forced to use an inferior entrance and walking up more flights of stairs to classes. On top of that, having all students use one entrance after lunch creates congestion and a nonmoving line. This crowds the area around the basement entrance which is incredibly inconvenient for HS students and the ES students in the courtyard after us.
During orientation, Fisher and Antonio claimed that this is not their work. It is someone else's choice, and they cannot do anything about it. We believe this is false, and they both could easily advocate for equitable main entrance access. And at the very least, they should be transparent with why the main entrance is closed to most students.
