Problem
Families already been traumatised/devastated after receiving the news their Loved one has been murdered. They are further traumatised and forgotten about by procedures. The next time I was allowed to my Son was the next day to identify him through a glass window in the police mortuary. I can’t describe how that image will haunt me for the rest of my life. My Son was kept there for 28 days this was due to the legal requirement for 2 postmortems. Then I was informed he was not fit for viewing due to the delay so his coffin had to be closed. Being deprived of seeing, holding, touching your loved one is cruel and inhumane. Families don’t have any human rights our loved one becomes property of the state/evidence. Surely this legal requirement has to change so the immediate family can have the opportunity to see their loved one again. This law is Dickensian there is no compassion or consideration for the impact and lasting effect this has on families. Our lives will never be ‘normal’ again. Also a ‘licence for life’ should be automatic when the perpetrator is found guilty of taking a life with a knife/weapon. Surely the law has a Duty of Care to protect the general public so that when a murderer is released they are monitored.

Solution
The law needs to listen to families because we all have very similar issues and serious concerns about the present Justice System. Hisorically we’ve been ignored for far too long and the law has ‘tilted’ too much In favour of the perpetrator. The Victims can’t speak up for themselves but families deserve the right to speak out on their behalf. We need to stick together in order to achieve a fairer system for victims and their family's. I know many people out in the community feel the same so please support this campaign. Thank you.

Personal story
My Son was murdered in May 2017 he was a much loved Son, Dad, Grandad, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, loyal friend to many. Our lives will never be ‘normal’ again we remain devastated and traumatised by the tragic circumstances of his death. I feel strongly specific aspects of the law need to change in order to avoid further distress. The courts and justice system need to include and not exclude or forget the families who have lost a loved one.
