The new president, Ranil Wickramasinghe, has ordered the Army and Police to arrest, detain and stop the ongoing peaceful protests at Galle Face (where protestors have been for over 3 months). They are using violence to stop the protests and are using extreme force against these peaceful protestors and those on hunger strikes. Such unethical arrests, grave injustices and human rights violations are occurring all over Sri Lanka. We created this petition so that we can gain the support of everyone around the world to stop the atrocities taking place in Sri Lanka. University students, mothers, children, monks, priests are being brutally assaulted all because they are exercising their right to protest. We truly hope that you will do all that you can in your power to help protect the human rights of our peaceful protestors in Sri Lanka. Everyone has the right to protest, so why is it that we are sitting idle while the people of Sri Lanka are being denied this basic right?
