Rights of Seniors-Maty Guiza started this petition to California Governor and

DO NOT DONATE.
During the chain reaction of cause and effect brought forth by the unplanned and unforeseen issues of dealing with COVID-19, patients have lost their rights.  Many elders, especially  those who are already vulnerable and in most cases living in some form of isolation, may become hospitalized with non-COVID related illnesses, and are not allowed a visit from a family member. Patients are reaching the end of life and only then may one family member visit. The determination must be made and certified by physicians. By that time, many are unconscious or highly deteriorated. Currently, seniors are psychologically impacted by months of complete isolation. Some are going into surgery not knowing if they will ever see their loved ones again. It is cruel, inhumane, a violation of civil rights, to dishonor this population and knowingly inflict emotional pain and suffering to elders and their families under the pretext of the Covid -19 pandemic. Measures such as implementing full protective clothing and masks should be made available to designated family members who have been forbidden by law to visit such patients at public /private nursing homes, upon transfers to emergency rooms and admittance to hospitals.  Patients should be able to step out of the hospital if necessary to a designated outdoor family visitation area, to say their farewells or to give hope.   These are non-covid  related incidents. Family members and patients have been stripped of their rights amidst the crisis of uninformed and reactionary behavior brought forth by the Government. No one should have to wait for an “end of life” determination for visitation rights.   It is discriminatory, it is the unequal and unfavorable treatment of a defenseless population of citizens. Have mercy. I urge you to consider yourself in this situation should your child, spouse, parent, or grandparent be prevented from receiving a conscious  farewell, hope, or the prayer of a loved one.   Different approaches for different situations is what needs to happen as opposed to hospitals not ”allowing” under state ordinance ”visitations” to ALL patients. While we all want to do right for everyone, this blanket ordinance is causing emotional distress, harm, and injury to patients. Please have mercy.
