Recently, indigenous peoples and other sectors of the society including workers, students and farmers in Ecuador have raised their legitimate voice to protest against a set of economic measures by the National Government that affects the poorest people in the country. On October 3rd, indigenous associations from all over the country announced a national strike, and convoked a "march of the peoples" towards the capital Quito to make their voice heard. Men, women, kids, and even the elderly left their homes in the rural areas and walked on foot from their homes for two or three days before reaching the capital with the purpose of carrying out their peaceful protest.

However, what was announced as such has ended in an inhumane repression by the police and other public forces; extreme violence and absolute violation of the most basic human rights of the protesters have been the common rule fay by day since the beginning of the protest. There are videos and shootings made by protesters on the field that show how police officers use exaggerated measures of repression against them without the least compassion: unnecessary and excessive quantity of tear gasses, inhumane beatings and kicks, and even shootings with rubber bullets and other metal artifacts. The number of deaths is increasing day by day, and the number of injured and detentions are increasing even higher. Some protesters have lost parts of their bodies; journalists, who are not part of the conflict, have been violated shamelessly and, worst of all, the repressive actions from authorities have crossed areas declared as safe humanitarian zones were children, the elderly, women and the injured were reunited resting or were being treated by paramedics.

On October 9th, the protest numbered its 7th day and there's no sign of the government reducing these inhumane measures against the Ecuadorian people. As citizens worried about the safety of protesters, we ask for your help to ensure their most elemental human rights of liberty of association, protest, dignity and life which are ratified by Ecuadorian and international laws. We need you to make these violations against the most vulnerable visible all over the world. We need you to make them stop!
