Fight Russia's Decriminalization of Domestic abuse law

Signing this petition will increase the chance for victims of domestic abuse in Russia to be acknowledged and helped to gain back their Human Rights that they deserve.

Firstly, on January 27, the lower chamber of the Russian parliament adopted the amendments decriminalizing a first offense of family violence, secondly, on February 1, 2017, the upper chamber of the Russian parliament adopted the amendments. Following these two major events takes place on February 7, 2017, when President Putin signed the bill into law.

Not only does this law decriminalize a crime that should never be looked down upon, the law also makes it incredibly more difficult for victims to get the help they need in order to flee from their abusers. It is no question that Russia has had a difficult time getting rid of violence within families, and the passing of this law is certainly a step in the wrong direction. To take away someone's right to living in an adequate environment and not providing aid for those that need it is a violation of human rights.
