Reverse the decision to decommission the Admiral Nursing Service in Hull

Admiral Nurses are Specialist Nurses who help people living with dementia and their family carers. They do this by providing skilled psychological, emotional and practical support to individuals living with dementia and those who love and care for them.
Admiral Nurses are sponsored by Dementia UK, an important national charity dedicated to supporting people with dementia. See more about this work here: http://www.dementiauk.org
There are not enough Admiral Nurses, less than 150 currently. There are 850,000 people living with dementia across the UK (Alzheimer's Research UK). At a time when the numbers of people with dementia are increasing, at a time when we need many more specialist nurses, there is a plan to decommission the Admiral Nurse Service in Hull.
Hull Clinical Commissioning Group are proposing to change the way they support people with dementia and their carers in the city. They are looking to provide a 'One Stop shop for carers' that sadly does not include the specialist nursing care from an Admiral Nurse. See press release: http://www.hullccg.nhs.uk/articles/the-future-of-dementia-carer-support-in-hull
A diagnosis of dementia, or an illness that causes symptoms of dementia is life changing and life limiting. It is degenerative by nature, and can mean a person has complex health and care needs. It is not right that people with dementia are denied access to specialised nursing care.
The photograph you see here is me with my lovely gran. I am privileged to work as a Dementia Specialist nurse, but Dementia touched our family too. We did not have access to an Admiral Nurse and I know how much it would have helped my own family had it been available.
The decision of Hull Clinical Commissioning Group to close this service is an example of the need for the expert care of an Admiral Nurse or Dementia Specialist Nurse as part of support for people with dementia and carers. These nurses can play a vital role in health care services and we cannot afford to lose this vital resource.
People living with dementia need and deserve access to an Admiral Nurse or Specialist Dementia Nurse. Please support this petition to challenge Hull Clinical Commissioning Group's decision.
If this can happen in Hull, specialist nursing care for people living with dementia is at risk in other areas. We must challenge this decision and every signature makes our voice louder.
