Give Barbara Buttrick the Freedom of the City of Hull (A statue would be nice too)

"When Barbara Buttrick started boxing in the late 1940s, women in the sport were regarded on a par with gamblers and prostitutes. However, the 4ft 11in Mighty Atom's career took her from the fairgrounds of Yorkshire to the boxing rings of the United States and - ultimately - the world title." Yet many have never heard of her. I know I hadn't until I went to see the brilliant play "The Mighty Atoms" at Hull Truck Theatre. If we had heard of her when we were young girls we would definitely without a doubt been inspired by her story. I'm not saying Amy Johnson didn't inspire me but not many working class kids get to fly planes for a living, sport however, is more accessible.

Barbara has never really received the acknowledgement she deserves and really should be seen as an inspiration to the young people, especially girls of Kingston Upon Hull.

We believe that Kingston Upon Hull should not only giver her the freedom of the city but a memorial/statue of her (maybe in Market Square near St. Pauls?)
