Steve Rudd started this petition to Hull City Council

Lilian Bilocca, Christine Jensen, Mary Denness, and Yvonne Blenkinsop fought a bitter campaign against the background of the "Triple Trawler Tragedy" in 1968 to win better and safer working conditions for Hull's trawlermen. Their efforts have been commemorated by plaques and street art, and there have been plays and TV programmes about them. But there is still no permanent statue of these women either in the town centre or on Hessle Road, the former centre of the fishing community in Hull.

Hull is a city which has a proud and worthwhile history of commemorating its heroes through public statuary.

We, the undersigned, call upon Hull City Council to commission a suitable statue on a suitable prominent site to honour the courage of these women in  speaking out, especially at a time when a woman's place was in the kitchen, winning vital concessions for the seafaring folk of Hull and, by doing so, saving an unknown quantity of lives of trawlermen and other seafarers.  Their achievement embodies the very spirit of Hull, and it should be suitably commemorated.

In Lil Bilocca's own words "Who's with me?"
