The Garden Wave started this petition to Governor Phil Murphy and

As The Garden State, we should be leading the country in the transition towards a more accessible and sustainable lifestyle. That leadership begins in our own community! We call upon our Garden State neighbors, political figures, green organizers, and businesses to support us in taking the initiative to implement a Hudson County, NJ Municipal Compost Program

In our community we are often subjected to the odor from our food waste-infested garbage. Do we have to show you how much food waste we have in the United States altogether? It’s 44 skyscrapers worth - annually. Yikes! Organic waste rots in landfills making it the third worst greenhouse gas emitter contributing to climate change. Increasing the efficiency of our food system requires collaborative efforts by businesses, governments and consumers. The solution will value not only profits, but people and the planet, too. WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

The simple solution is COMPOSTING!

Composting will create a symbiosis for...

Our Community, by providing compost to local urban farmers and putting an end to smelly garbage.
Our Businesses, by appealing to eco-conscious customers and reducing landfill fees.
Our Officials, by creating jobs for our community and boosting green credentials.
Our Mother Earth, by drastically reducing our Greenhouse gas emissions.

Hudson County, New Jersey would not be the first to propose and implement a successful Municipal Composting program. There is a growing list of successful city composting programs across the country, one being San Francisco, California. This city and many others provide bins, a pick up program, and education on the importance of composting for the people.

We call upon our Local Officials to endorse this petition and convince Government colleagues to support a cleaner future in our community. We ask ___ to begin planning and developing the Hudson County, NJ Compost Center.

Our community must direct County funding in ways that benefit us and our planet. It's all a matter of educating the community about compositing and inviting them into the process. We are eager to help fundraise and gain sponsorship in order to create our own Hudson County, NJ Compost Program. Sign our petition and join our mailing list if you agree with the vision! We can do this!
