Resist Indian Sugar Barons Save Nyangweta forest, only water catchment & herbal reservoir

Nyangweta Forest is the only remaining public land where poor villagers can graze their cattle, gather medicinal herbs and berries for treating common diseases. It is a water catchment area which protects over ten natural streams and rivers. The county government has colluded with sugar barons from India to grab the over 300 areas to purportedly put up a sugar factory. Given the size of the forest, local villagers will have to be moved to create sufficient land to grow sufficient sugar cane to support the factory's operations.

The South Nyanza Sugar Company, located about 25 kilometers from the forest, operates under capacity and has had to get annual government capital infusion and subsidies to survive. Economically the sugar factory is not viable while environmentally it is threat to the local community's livelihoods and survival. Given the history of such 'development project' in Kenya, this is sham and a strategic plan by the community elite, crooked county government mandarins, and compromised environment monitors to excise indigenous land down, turn it over into private foreign investors, only to buy it for a song down the line when the factory goes bankrupt.
