Not sure why HSBC has chosen to close its bank in Ely. Ely is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. With thousands of new houses planned over the next 10 years, Ely is set to get busier as the population swells. HSBC have already closed other branches in the area including Downham Market & now the next nearest HSBC will be in Newmarket or Cambridge. There are still many older locals who rely on this branch, plus enough homeowners and business people who could make this service viable. Having been with them for the last 40 odd years as a personal account holder and 15 years as a business account holder (plus at various times as a mortgage customer) if the closure goes ahead I like many will change to a service which will keep a long term presence in Ely. It's not just about usage but loyalty. HSBC the World's Local Bank ...... not for much longer!
