During the early hours of 14th June 2017, a fire broke out at the 24-storey Grenfell Tower, a block of public housing flats in North Kensington, London, England.

Within minutes of the first 999 call, emergency services were at the scene. Firefighters did not hesitate and ran into a burning tower to save the life's of those they could, at the risk of their own.

They worked tirelessley in one of the biggest fires London has seen in 50 years. Their bravery, courage, compassion and strength - both physically and mentally - needs to be commended.

These firefighters cant just go home, close the door, and 'leave work at work' like the majority of us manage to do. They will be haunted by horrific scenes inside the building that we will never begin to imagine, feel guilt and despair for those they couldn't save. They will never forget what they witnessed first hand, in the centre of what all of us have only stood by and watched in horror.

It is for this reason, and the fact they do this without hesitation, that we shouldn't hesitate in signing this petition to push forward for them to be awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service.
