Deaf people living in Northside Brisbane only have two options for viewing open captioned movies. Both located quite some distance away. One in South Brisbane, Sunnybank Hoyts, or one in West Brisbane, the Blue Room Cinebar at Paddington. Unfortunately, as of yesterday (8 March 2020), the Blue Room Cinebar has cancelled future Open Captioned sessions.

So at the moment, Sunnybank Hoyts is the only option, although it is on the Southside. As Deaf residents of Brisbane Northside, we feel disappointed. To make it fair, we kindly request that a cinema on the north side of Brisbane offer open captioned movies. Since Hoyts offer it in Sunnybank, we feel perhaps the cinemas at Stafford City would be the easiest option.

We call on Stafford Hoyts to give open captions a real chance to make it fair & equal for fellow Deaf Brisbane Northside residents.
