The surcharge on immigrant NHS workers could not be more unfair: they already pay for the right to use the NHS through taxes, and in this way most immigrants are already net contributors to the UK economy -- unlike the average Brit, who is more often unemployed. To make NHS workers pay twice is scandalous: an outstandingly mean and discriminatory way to raise money, another aspect of May's "hostile environment" now being enforced by Patel.

This is a ridiculous tax on people who are working for our NHS, there is absolutely no reason for workers to have to pay a surcharge to use a system they are working in, God knows they gets paid too little to start with !"!

I'm a UK citizen. The PM's life is saved by immigrants and this is the thanks he gives them. It's unconscionable. What an hateful and shameful set of human beings make the policies in this government.

The health service would collapse without foreign health professionals. Stop penalising them and acknowledge that we need their help.

You cannot encourage the very people we need in this country, to come here, if you are going to penalise them! They should be given incentives not deterrents. Where is the common sense?

The government is short sighted as well as totally immoral if they don’t change this.

It's an outrage that any frontline worker, be they from the NHS (including ancillary staff), to carers, to shop workers, bus drivers, delivery and taxi drivers - literally anyone who has kept our Country going, be expected to pay this surcharge.

And while I'm here, all should be given settled status for themselves and their immediate family members, free of charge, immediately!

We should not punish people for helping us.
