As a skateboarder in the Spring Branch community we find it hard to find an area that we can call home. With the majority of the skateparks located far away from our community it leaves us feeling un-welcomed and eery when showing up to skateparks outside our vicinity, which leads us to practice our craft in uncommon/unsafe areas in the streets trying to make the most out of what we got. 

“Independence Park” located on 5515 Clara rd. became a staple location for us to grow through. It was within walking distance and always held a feeling of security and welcoming. Here is where we would like to start our foundation. It also already has a patch of concrete that has gone without use for the past several years. With the help of the city we know that we can create something timeless and form bonds with those around us. 

We see those with a home as being able to grow in the sport they’re passionate about without having to worry about transportation or even the chance of not knowing anyone in the area. Our goal is to form a family within our community that we can call our home. 

We wish to refrain from bullying, and violence and open all those that wish to enter the gates with open hands, the same way we wish we were treated at other parks. It all started with an idea that became our seed for growth. With your help we can make this possible, turn a seed into a family tree and protect those under from the harm this world inflicts upon us. We need a safe place not just for us but for the future. Something our Spring Branch skateboarding community can call ours, something we can call home.
