Bharat Chawla started this petition to Housing Department Government of Maharashtra and

House rent in Mumbai is very high and is rising  steadily with 7-10% increment rate. Now due to Covid-19 lockdown, most of the areas such as Andheri, Worli, Jogeshwari etc. are in Red Zone and businesses are not going to open up soon in these areas. Companies are preparing to cut down salaries and reduce staff and that’s why monthly incomes of many people have reduced or have stopped completely. There are other set of people who are in fear of loosing their jobs and want to save some money for unforeseen circumstances in future.
The entertainment Industry has come to a complete standstill.

As rent in Mumbai is highest as compared to any other metro city in India, it will be very difficult to pay high rent in future and live a healthy life.

It was a great decision to urge house owners to not force for rent if tenant is unable to pay but in the leave and licenses agreement a clause of fine for late payment exists and it will be very difficult for tenants to pay the pending lump sum amount in future because that will include previous rent along with the fines.

So we urge Maharashtra government to look into the matter and decide a capping for the house rent depending upon the area. For example if someone pays 45000/- for a 1BHK in Lokhandwala then reduction of 30-40% will be of great help. Also capping should be done depending upon the area as well as financial capability of tenant. It will be a big relief and will help people to work positively towards building a better India.
