Somali Citizens United started this petition to House Speaker Mohamed Mursal and

We, the people of Somalia, recognize that elections are one of the most important pillars of any democracy and the cornerstone for an empowered citizenry and political justice. Our elections should be the instruments through which we choose leaders among us and hold them accountable. Despite numerous concessions by leaders of the executive and legislature arms of our government on the path towards credible and timely elections, some of the FMS leaders have deliberately sought to spoil any and all genuine efforts, on this matter.

We, the proud citizens of Somalia, can no longer wait on our fate and allow selfish leaders to take us back to the painful years past. Our memory is vivid, our wounds not completely healed. Never again is the voice of power that unite us all citizens. We will not allow these selfish leaders to blindly take us to the path of destruction and mayhem. Never again!

Mr. Speaker, we demand, with all our collective voices, that you convene the assembly and urgently call on the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) to carry-out its constitutionally mandated role, based on the one person, one vote rule, and as is stipulated in the Federal Elections Laws passed in the House.

In the midst of the never-ending irresponsible leadership shown by some FMS leaders, we demand a bold and courageous leadership that takes power back to who it should belong- the people. We are confident in the ability of the NIEC to conduct a one person, one vote, and urge you to affirmatively facilitate our full participation of the electoral process as we are the right stakeholders of our political destiny. The ongoing electoral impasse has laid bare the need for a #1person1Vote. We urge all Somali, including the legislative and executive branches of governments at all levels, to recognize the urgency of this matter.

Mr. Speaker, the time to act is NOW. We count on your leadership and that of the entire parliament to seriously consider this petition.

In Solidarity,

Somali Citizens United
