Paul Brouns worldview is not supported by a single existing peer reviewed research article. Therefore his view is fundimentally wrong and our science panel should reflect this reality.

Having a scientifically illiterate person on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology is simply appalling.

American students rank behind those of all other first-world (and even a few third-world) nations in math and science, in large part because of the very attitudes voiced by Rep. Broun. Science is essential to a nation's economic success in the 21st century. To have an anti-science person heading the House Science Committee will put us even farther behind the rest of the technological world. Meanwhile, overuse of antibiotics in medicine and agriculture has resulted in the emergence of bacteria resistant to all available antibiotics (an example of evolution in action, incidentally); the world desperately needs ongoing development of new antibiotics to keep ahead in the arms race with the pathogens. An aging population needs treatments for the diseases of advancing age, such as Alzheimer's and other dementias, cancers and cardiovascular disease. A growing world population and a changing climate will lead to food scarcity unless new, drought-, flood- and heat-resistant crops are developed. We need someone who values science heading the House Science Committee.
