Australia for equality strives for a society where all genders are seen as equal both in
government and in our communities. Women every day are subjected towards the violence and harassment of men and no adequate punishments are being made. 97% of sex offenders are males aged 15-19. This puts young teenage girl in the most risk of being harassed, assaulted or even raped and is something that 1 in 6 women aged 15 and under and 1 out of 3 women above 15 experience. Because of this, women are afraid of being alone, walking down the street at night, of any stranger that poses a possible threat and if they do get attacked, society blames them, says it’s their fault and they should be ashamed. 1 in 10 men believe that these women were “probably lying”. This is what society has normalised sexual assault and harassment to be. Out of these women,
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, may be more likely to experience sexual assault than non-Indigenous Australians. In 2018, there were 874 sexual assaults alone recorded against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 and over. Almost one-quarter of cases involved Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
. Australia for equality also believes that
reproductive rights are human rights. Only in October 2020 was abortion fully legalised in South Australia in 2018,  New South Wales in 2019 and Northern Territory in 2017. But even with abortion rights, women are still shamed for their decision.
Currently, rape in Australia only 25 years imprisonment.
Sexual assault, imprisonment is 10 years and sexual assault by compelling sexual touching imprisonment is 10 years. Assault with intent to rape imprisonment is 10 years and threat to commit a sexual offence imprisonment 5 years.
Keep in mind, these women have to live with there experience for the rest of their life. Women after, experience high rates of PTSD, depression, anxiety as well as physical consequences such as urinary infections, uterine, Pregnancy and Sexually transmitted diseases. 25 years can and does not compare to a lifetime of trauma for these women.
Australia for equality wants the imprisonment levels to be heightened. 40 years should be the minimum imprisonment rate for offenders
.
