Stop heavy court fines for minor parking violations resulting in abuse of power by police.

Cypriot citizens and residents who want to park have difficulty finding parking spaces due to a lack of infrastructure, and yet can be fined by the municipalities AND the state police. Tickets are often not even seen by the recipients meaning that they are sent through the court system without the chance to defend oneself, resulting in burdensome fines that can then be collected by the police often in a very heavy-handed way that causes intimidation. We have the right to liberty and security of person, which is not what happens if you're leaving on a trip at the airport and you get detained to pay years-old parking or other minor civil fines, or detained on the road and forced into the police station, or handed a court fine for 257 Euros for a parking fine that started at 5 Euros and yet could actually lead to your arrest! All of these incidents have been reported in the media. Time for a change for the better, including: the ability to pay court fine payments online, notifications by SMS of court dates so you can challenge, and notifications by SMS or email of court decisions. The courts should process the cases transparently and collect the money, not the police, who have better things to do in their duty to protect public safety. Most importantly: building more parking structures or finding innovative solutions to help citizens be more mobile.
