People’s peerage for homeless champion Andy Hutchins

Andy Hutchins, formerly homeless and living on the streets of London, is now a passionate, informed and persuasive advocate for homeless people. He has argued on Channel 4 for concerted government action to tackle homelessness on many fronts. Andy’s dog, Bailey, who he says has saved his life, is a symbol of people’s need for connection to others. Recognition as a human being, as well as a roof over their heads, is what homeless people need, says Andy. At a time when respect for traditional politicians is at an all time low, we need people like Andy in Parliament to be a voice for the powerless. Andy has overcome many obstacles to get off the streets. His determination to save himself and Bailey, and the understanding he shows of the myriad ways people can end up homeless should be put to good use. Andy says that what is needed is action now. Let’s make him a member of the House of Lords and give him the chance to make a real difference to ridding this country of the shame of homelessness.
