Debt collection agencies are a burden to people from all walks of society. In a time of financial hardship for all ages, the thought that people, particularly the disabled and elderly who are struggling with debts being harassed by debt collection agencies is inhumane. Not only do these companies charge huge levies for even the slightest payment delays, but they are required to harass the person with bad attitude and threatening phone calls, demanding people give out their personal information on the phone. When people refuse to do this this they add more charges and say the person has refused to comply! Companies like these including the one the HMRC uses - Advantis - also send an inordinate amounts of threatening letters and phoning the person every day. It is absolutely disgusting. I have been receiving a combination of all of the above in error, and it made me consider how I would feel if the debt was actual. Especially for the vulnerable. Please sign this petition and demand that the government prevents the handing over of debts to these agencies. This petition also requires that these companies be properly regulated to ensure their actions are fair and that charges are kept to the rate of inflation. Harassment should not be allowed! The treatment of people by these debt collection agencies represents a violation of human rights and should not be allowed to continue.
