The Arlington Hotel, opened in 1924, is under new ownership for the first time in decades. The new owner, Al Rajabi, has a solid track record in Little Rock and San Antonio in refurbishing long neglected hotels, and plans to invest 30-million dollars in the Arlington Hotel. Less than six weeks after purchasing the hotel, the city of Hot Springs notified the owner the hotel would be closed November 8th if repairs were not made. The city cited safety issues as the cause; however, those issues have not been released to the public.
Forced closure of the hotel would financially devastate the 200 employees who would be laid off. The closure would also negatively effect our local tourism industry and cost the city in Advertising and Promotion Tax dollars.
We would kindly like to ask the city to allow Mr. Rajabi to continue with his staged redevelopment plan while keeping the hotel open. We are asking the city to sit down with Mr. Rajabi and constructively develop a timeline to redevelop and refurbish the hotel.
