Allow 2 people to be present while mothers give birth!
Giving birth is one of life's most precious moments. Finally being able to see your child after nine long months of carrying them is very special. Since the beginning of the pandemic and these hard times, mothers have only been allowed One support person during labor, delivery, and recovery. They cannot switch this person out at all, the whole time that they are at the hospital.
So what happens if you're a surrogate, and you can't have both parents in the room? It could be heartbreaking. What if your mom or dad is going to be a grandma or grandpa for the first time? They still aren't allowed. These special people have to wait until you are fully recovered and leaving the hospital to see you and your new bundle of joy.
I'm fighting for women to have the ability to choose TWO support people instead of one. Doctor's and nurses are worried about the spreading of covid, but if both people test negative I believe they should be allowed. As I said, they are experiencing one of life's most beautiful moments, and they can only have one person with them. I believe it's highly unfair to put that kind of stress on a new mom, because most of the time it will have to be the father of the child. And that leaves them with no other support.
I asked that you please be considerate and understanding to this situation, and take the time to think about it. If you were a mother giving birth or a father celebrating your new child, wouldn't you also want somebody else there to celebrate with you?
