On Monday, August 30th, the staff at Spencer Hospital received a notice of a COVID-19 vaccination mandate. Prior to November 1st, all staff must be vaccinated with the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine or be terminated. 

This decision was ultimately made by President Bill Bumgarner alone. The board, the staff, and the community did not make this decision together. Spencer Hospital employees have been working tirelessly on the frontline since the beginning of the pandemic and now are being told they are expendable. They were made aware that they must be vaccinated by November 1st, or prepare to spend Christmas with their families unemployed. 

This mandate not only affects employees; this mandate affects their families, and YOU- the incredible community of Spencer. This affects you because we will be facing a staffing void like no other. Vaccinated and unvaccinated alike will be terminated or resign their positions. This raises a grave concern regarding the availability of staff to serve you and your healthcare needs. Will there be someone there to help you with your emergencies, to help deliver your newborn baby, to assist with surgery, to administer your chemo, or to (God-forbid) manage your ventilator? 

The beds at Spencer Hospital will be available, but the staff will not. Who will care for you or your loved ones? Who will care for you?

Please sign this petition in support of the hospital workers that have continued to show up to care for you without hesitation during the pandemic! Both the vaccinated and unvaccinated employees stand together requesting your support to repeal this mandate. Let's ensure that Healthcare from people you know is available in the future. EVERY department needs your help; nursing, dietary, therapy, housekeeping, laboratory, maintenance, security, registration, billing...the list is massive; please help our hospital family.
