We are grateful to our Honourable Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu and Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India for the leadership taken for expansion Chennai Metrorail. Sir we would like to bring facts how CHENNAI METRO PHASE-I operation revenue can be TRIPLED if Metro Ticket Fares are reduced by say 30% will bring a huge footfall patronage to PHASE-I operations and revenues could reach Rs.240 Crores.

As per Times of India article 13.06.2018 states, Chennai Metro operates 526 TRIPS, Average Passenger usage daily is only 1,00,000 commuters this is in Contrast to the Passenger Handling Capacity of 4,86,000 of Chennai Metro Rail. We have exhibited a Table showing the Peak Hour Passenger Carrying Capacity stands at 2,42,000 - (220 trips – 1100 passengers per trip for 8 hours of operation) and Off-Peak Hours Passenger carrying capacity stands at 2,44,800 (306 trips – 800 passengers per trip 11 hours of operation). Thus the present Chennai Metro Phase-I Infrastructure has a whopping 4,86,800 passenger handling capacity which is been very much under untilised because of HIGH FARES OF PHASE-I.

If there is a reduction in FARES around 30% as available in DELHI METRO for monthly passes and also DELHI METRO OFFERS PRICE DISCOUNTS during OFF-PEAK HOURS & SUNDAY FARE-NATIONAL HOLIDAY FARES if implemented in CHENNAI METRO PHASE-I the revenue will 3 times. Any Public Transport should be a VOLUME BASED model available at an affordable price and it should be competent to other METRO CITIES. CHENNAI METRO is the only METRO in INDIA which suffering a major setback because of HIGH PRICING and is VERY MUCH UNDER UTILISED BELOW ITS PASSENGER CAPACITY of around 5,00,000 commuters. Thus, if the Passenger Volume of 4,86,800 is CAPITALISED by reducing the FARES, CHENNAI METRO PHASE-I can generate an income of around 240 CRORES from operations.

We request our Honourable Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu and Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India to consider this futuristic transit system which can bring a paradigm shift to our localities by DISCOUNTING the CHENNAI METRO RAIL FARES by 30% and also introduce OFF-PEAK HOURS FARE/SUNDAY FARES/45 TRIPS CARD-MONTHLY PASS in CHENNAI METRO to bring more patronage on this DREAM GREEN PROJECT.
