My niece, Kescia Branche was brutally beaten and left on the side of the road. It is unclear how long she was lying there, before being picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the ICU. Kescia suffered severe head trauma, a broken leg and spent the next two days in the ICU. She never regained consciousness and succumbed to injuries she sustained from the attack. The motive behind the attack is still unclear. Kescia was a petite young lady and posed no physical threat to anyone, especially an adult male. In my opinion, her attacker is nothing more than an a evil, heartless savage, who attacked a helpless woman then ran away and hid like the coward he is.
We, the undersigned, are saying loud and clear that we have had enough of the violence against women in Guyana. We are asking Volda Lawrence, Mininter of Social Protection to propose a bill that will:
1) Review and revise domestic abuse laws.
2) Propose tougher sentencing for gender-based violence.
3) Support survivors of domestic abuse.
