Several months ago I started following this page only to find out everything was taking place in Depew Oklahoma! Wow A SUSTAINABLE VILLAGE RIGHT HERE IN OKLAHOMA! Long story short, the group is now having trouble with the towns mayor, who is all of a sudden changing original agreements to let these families build without having to follow a code. The houses they are building are unique and made from pallets.. truly living off the grid. The mayor doesn't understand that nearly 47K people follow them on facebook and that other sites like theirs are reaching 500K quickly. Sustainable living and living off the grid becoming popular! The little town of Depew has 500 people in it, and this group also owns the only grocery store in town. David, one of the founders of the group gave up his piano and music store here in Tulsa to start this great project with his wife and three small kids. Another family living there has 5 kids and they are still living in a tent because the city is now telling them the cannot build their living quarters . If you would like to be a part of friendly contact to the mayor Robert Tally at: TownofDepew@att.net, and tell him how you feel about this project and what they are trying to do. This mayor does not understand that this project could actually bring more people to his town to shop and stay, possibly forever. He does not understand Facebook and the fact that these people have over 46k followers and what that means for the little town of Depew. What would help these people now? 1. Your support! 2. They are looking for travel trailers to use while this matter is being resolved because the tents are leaking. 3. They are needing people to come out and volunteer. Some people have had to leave because financial needs were not met and they expected their transition to be more joyful and now they are short handed for daily work. 5. The founder of the project wants you to call him if you have any solutions he has over looked :) ~Dave Webster (918)289-2644 6. Don't forget to email the mayor and/or give him a call with nice meaning conversation about what this project could mean for his town. 7. Share this with your friends that would be interested in writing/calling/volunteering/ moving there. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Living-Off-The-Grid/335665986469892
Depew is a great small town and I am sure they would love to hear from all the people out there that are striving to live off the grid as much as possible. Holding Earth is an inspiration to many in the world!
