THE PROBLEM

Hundreds of pilots and cabin attendants, who are required to undergo mandatory post flight testing during their medical surveillance period, live in Discovery Bay.

The recent change from the HK Government requiring all crew members to undergo testing through combined nasal and throat swabs has following consequences:

1. Hundreds of crew members need now take public transport from Discovery Bay to neighboring communities (and back) in order to get this test done.

2. Crew members will have to pre book appointments to ensure time slots, walk in might not be possible on any given day. This has the potential to collide with pre flight rest requirements. The Civil Aviation Department requires a crew member to be fit for duty. How can I guarantee that when I have to book an appointment well ahead of my sign on time for a flight duty?

3. I am required by my employer (a well known major carrier based in Hong Kong) to take every precautionary measure to avoid unnecessary social contact whilst in Hong Kong. But the Government now forces me to ride on buses, where people sometimes stand shoulder on shoulder in order to get to neighboring communities.Really!?

THE SOLUTION

The Government of Hong Kong sends a mobile testing center to Discovery Bay, open 7 days a week, from 1000-2000.
