Recently there has been a proposal made by the Department of Education to close Clarkson Community High School and expand Kinross College and Mindarie Senior College. The current school site would then be repurpose to become part of North Metropolitan TAFE, who already operate a small facility adjacent to the school.

As a result of the proposed changes, substantial building works will be necessary at significant cost to the tax player.

At present:

  • Clarkson Community Highschool caters students from Years 7 to 12
  • Kinross College caters students from Years 7 to 10
  • Mindarie Senior College caters students in Years 11 and 12

Clarkson Community High School has worked tirelessly over the years to maximise educational outcomes for students and improve the learning environment to the point where past reputations are no longer valid.

As a result of this, Clarkson's WACE (WA Certificate of Education) achievement percentage for 2019 is higher than other schools in the area and Clarkson regularly receives positive feedback from students and parents. The dedicated teachers know all the students by name and can offer more one-on-one tuition due to smaller class sizes. This has led to a very caring and supporting learning environment and better relationships with parents and the community.

Unfortunately enrolment numbers at Clarkson Community Highschool have declined since Butler College opened in 2013. The fall in enrolments is actually an artificially created issue primarily due to the Department of Education significantly reducing Clarkson's catchment area from nine feeder primary schools too two. This has also been exacerbated by Mindarie Senior College taking many out of catchment students from the Clarkson area.

In close vicinity of Mindarie Senior College, there already exists two other Year 7 - 12 high schools and a primary school a short distance away. The local area is already heavily congested and, if this proposal was to go ahead, traffic would only be increased further.

We believe Clarkson Community High School has blossomed into a caring local community school with great results.

WE, THE PARENTS AND LOCAL COMMUNITY OF CLARKSON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, DO NOT WANT OUR SCHOOL TO CLOSE.

WE BELIEVE THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SHOULD ABANDON THEIR PROPOSAL AND LEAVE OUR SCHOOLS THE WAY THEY ARE
