democracy5050: Equal gender representation in parliament

Australia proudly took a lead last century to recognise the right of women to vote and stand for election.

However, this did not translate into women gaining office. It took until 1943 for the first two women to be elected to parliament. Since then, the number of women in parliament has increased slowly but the percentage remains very low and Australia is currently placed 54th in terms of gender equity in the national parliament.

We believe it is time to take decisive action to improve democratic representation in Australia. See www.democracy5050.com
