This is important so that:
1) the police officers and the police services are not excluded from the same laws that the ordinary civilian must uphold and so that due process for all citizens can be observed.
2) court time and tax-payers funds are not wasted with false statements and testimony that lead to exoneration of those where due process could have been upheld.
3) the innocent are truly served and protected.
