Subject: Lift & Escalator at Williams Landing Railway Station Wallace Avenue - Point Cook

Hon. Jill Hennessy

MP, Altona District,

Dear Sir/Madam,

While Williams Landing railway station serves suburbs such as Williams Landing and parts of Truganina and Hoppers Crossing, both of which are also facilitated by other stations (Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing), Point Cook residents mainly rely on Williams Landing to commute to and from CBD.

To board a train while parking at Wallace Avenue, Point Cook or commuting up to that point by other means (riding a bike, walking, etc.), one has to climb up 57 steps (yes, we do count when it takes so long) and then walk the long bridge to reach up to a point where Ramp or Lift facilities are then available as an option to taking stairs to get down and reach a platform.

This is quite inconvenient to People with Disability, Kids, Pregnant Women, Senior Citizens, Parents with kids in lap and Pram/Stroller, Physically challenged and people with reasonably heavy luggage/office bags. To avail any ramp or Lift facility, as of now, all citizens who can be classified as belonging to either of above groups have to COMPULSORILY take the Entry/Exit from Woodbury Street, Williams Landing, which is not always convenient. Yes, we do have a Ramp facility at Wallace Avenue, but the ramp is so long, that except for those on a bicycle, no one opts for the Ramp to get up to or get down from the Bridge.

Point Cook currently has a population of more than 60,000 residents, with new estates still coming up to this date. International tourists visit RAAF museum and beautiful parks in and around the suburb. Population point of view - this is the largest suburb in Wyndham. People need to be encouraged to use Wallace Avenue for pick up/drop off of commuters by providing facilities that would assist groups who cannot easily climb up/down the long staircase to get to the bridge.

Moreover to this, we all strongly believe this Railway Station name should have identity of Point Cook too.

We all request the relevant authority to do the needful at the earliest possible and facilitate us with these primary needs.

Best Regards,

Sanket Kakkad & Rajendra Kakkad.
