Ban the sale and possession of opera house nets in Tasmania

In Tasmania opera house nets are already illegal to use in all inland waterways, but are still being sold in retail outlets across the state. These nets trap indiscriminately and frequently drown platypuses and have become a huge problem for the platypus and other animals.
Every day in Tasmania people are still able to purchase these traps and use them in our waterways.
Knowing that we allow this to happen to one of our most iconic and unique species, the platypus, is simply disgraceful. The thought of any animal trapped underwater, slowly drowning while it frantically searches for an escape is horrific, and the current regulations clearly don’t prevent this while shops are still selling these nets.
Please help by signing this petition to Hon. Guy Barnett, the Consumer Affairs Minister for Tasmania, to force shops to stop selling these death traps that are killing our beloved platypus and other important species in our waterways. While shops are still selling these nets, this illegal practice will continue.
