Keep Free Camping at The Neil Turner Weir
This petition made change with 967 supporters!
Like many small country towns, Mitchell relies heavily on tourist visitation to ensure the viability of its local businesses. Integral to the tourism industry in Mitchell has been the free camping at the Neil Turner Weir which has been in vogue for over two decades.
Recent events have demonstrated how fragile the current arrangement is however, when authorities can arrive in town unannounced and without consultation and effectively prohibit free camping at this very popular camping site. That action precipitated tremendous anxiety within both the local and touring community alike. Left unchecked this move would decimate the local economy resulting in job losses and possible business closures.
This petition respectfully calls on the Minister for Natural Resources, Energy & Mines to take all necessary steps to ensure that free camping at the Neil Turner Weir remains a feature in our community.
We ask that everyone who has enjoyed or values this great amenity show their support by signing this petition.
