Harsher Penalties for Animal Cruelty in Western Australia

To the Honourable, Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled.
My names Anton La Macchia, I'm very passionate about animals, I volunteer as a native animal rescuer and as an after hours emergency veterinary assistant. I was so incensed by dog killer Jayde Paul Rowan’s suspended sentence last June, I formed Harsher Penalties for Animal Cruelty in WA.
Our main goal is to enhance public awareness on animal welfare across Western Australia. Bringing in harsher penalties for animals is my dream as they're such vulnerable and defenseless creatures. I regularly update the community on public issues surrounding this area and I use social media as my main resource in providing communication updates to the public. I'm an advocate in the area and I will continue to have public involvement as I believe collectively we can all make a difference
Now we ask the Legislative Assembly to review the WA Animal Welfare Act 2002 and to enforce harsher penalties and punishments. Temporary animal bans, community service and monetary fines are just simply too lenient! Penalties such as lengthy prison time needs to be enforced by the government, as well as permanent animal bans, not temporary.
For the people signing the petition this is the first step in making our voice heard and where animals are silent, it is hoped that justice can be finally served. In the memory of the many animals who have suffered and tragically lost their lives.
Penalties for animal cruelty in Western Australia are "unsatisfactory" and harsher measures are needed to be introduced urgently.
