The Government of Australia should consider the idea of banning Detentions in Schools. Detention is not an effective way of punishing students as they should learn about what they have done wrong. Students should be able to reflect on what they have done instead of sitting in a room where they just do work. An alternate for this would be a reflection sheet of some sort were students could reflect on what they done. This would impact students as they would learn about what they have done and how to not be a repeat offenders. Some studies have shown that there are negative effects to the use of detention. A study by Fabelo et al. (2011) followed seventh graders in 2001, 2012, and 2013. Findings demonstrated that students in detention were much more likely to be held back, drop out, or be involved in criminal activity. These studies were reported on by https://nwcommons.nwciowa.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1069&context=education_masters

These are examples why Detention in schools should be banned and an alternate option for this.
