STOP Invasion of Alcohol Shop/Bars into Residential Localities

This petition had 64 supporters

Come July 1st, 2017, as per Supreme Court of India's order, the liquor/wine shops and liquor bars have to move away from national highways.

This created an unique problem as most of the existing liquor shops/bars are setting up shop in residential localities.

We urge The Supreme Court of India and The Government of India to halt setting up of liquor shops/bars in residential localities.

This sudden surge of liquor shops/bars in and around residential localities will affect the peace and serenity of existing residents. Also due to these liquor shops springing up in decades old residential localities, security of senior citizens, children and women is at stake.

The solution we propose is, before a vendor/organisation can set up a liquor shop amidst residential locality, the government has to invite feedback from public (via phone/email/in person) by putting up a large and clear sign at the proposed place of such business for 15 or more days. This large and clear sign must list the phone number (could be IVR), email address and Government Official responsible for receiving feedback (like The District Collector) and also mention the intention of selling liquor at the proposed place. In addition to the sign at the proposed place of business, a press release must be done listing the same info as above.

We urge you to sign this petition so that we inform The Supreme Court of India and The Government of India to come up with a solution to the liquor shops/bars in residential localities problem.
