Kamal Rajpal started this petition to Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ranjan Gogoi, CJI and Shri Sunil Arora, the Chief Election Commissioner of India

About 34% of the MPs in Lok Sabha 2014 have Self-declared criminal cases against them. The number of such lawmakers in both the states and the center is going up with every election.

The Election Commission of India makes available the Self-declared EDUCATIONAL, FINANCIAL and CRIMINAL background of the candidates at: http://affidavitarchive.nic.in/ . But, not every voter has the ability or the resources to access the website.

Right to information on the criminal antecedents of every candidate is a fundamental right of every Indian voter. To achieve this objective, suggested below is a modified EVM Ballot Paper.

Between the candidate’s ‘NAME column’ and his ‘SYMBOL column’; a “New Column” has been added below which a ‘new symbol [X]’ can be added if need be. This ‘new symbol [X]’ informs a voter that this candidate has self-declared criminal cases pending against him. He is NOT acquitted yet.

S.No.    NAME         New Col.           SYMBOL

1     AVTAR                  [X]                       A-a

2     BOBBY                  -----                     B-b

3     CHAND                  -----                     C-c

4     DAVID                  [X]                      D-d

5     ESWAR                 -----                     E-e

In the above example, candidates with Serial Numbers 1 and 4 have self-declared criminal cases pending against them. The two candidates have NOT yet been acquitted.

Remarks of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in a speech to the Constituent Assembly of India on Thursday, the 4th November 1948: “I feel that the Constitution is workable, it is flexible and it is strong enough to hold the country together both in peace time and in wartime. Indeed, if I may say so, if things go wrong under the new Constitution, the reason will not be that we had a bad Constitution. What we will have to say is that Man was vile”.

If WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA keep electing criminal law breakers to be our law makers, can we ensure that shameful incidents like that of India’s 8-Year-Old Rape and Murder Victim from Kathua, will never reoccur?

Please sign this petition requesting Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Chief Justice of India and Shri Sunil Arora, the Chief Election Commissioner of India for help to incorporate the above suggested simple changes in the EVM Ballot Paper. This will empower the Indian voter so as to ensure Decriminalization of Indian Politics.
