For the safety of our children, the Child Protection (Offenders Registration) Act needs to be amended to include those convicted of manslaughter of a child alongside child murderers and sexual offenders. At present there is a loophole within our laws which means that, child killers who are convicted of manslaughter rather than murder or child sexual offences are free to work with children, start a new family or begin a relationship without anyone knowing the truth. For this reason we need the Premier Barry O'Farrell and his Ministers to step in and amend the Act so that we are able to continue to KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE.
This is important to me for I have personally been affected by this. My daughter Tayla Parker was killed by my ex defacto in 1999 when she was only five. He took her from her bed at 1am in the morning and hung her to death. His conviction was downgraded to manslaughter due to 'diminished responsibilities'. This meant that he was not included in the Child Protection Offenders Registry which is appalling.
