John Ellison started this petition to Homewood City Schools Board of Education and

Homewood High School is operating on a red and blue team schedule in which half of all students go to school for in-person instructions for 2 days a week. The other 3 days, students receive virtual instruction and assignments to complete. This system is working. It is effective in keeping students engaged even at home, and it keeps students safe. Students are working well and want to stay safe. Returning to a 5 day schedule would put many students in danger of becoming sick and taking their illness home to their family who might be at a high risk of succumbing to COVID-19 if they were to contract it.  If Homewood High School were to go back to a standard 5 day school week, the rate at which students and teachers are infected with COVID-19 would increase exponentially. We want the Homewood Board of Education and Homewood High School Administration to wait to go back to standard school schedules. We want to keep our schedule as it is and keep students learning in a way that is practical and safe for our current climate. Keeping students safe is a priority of our school system, so we should take all steps and precautions necessary to do just that. Homewood High School would serve its students and community best by keeping students on a red/blue schedule.
