HUD/Congress have a definition of homelessness that excludes most families and teens on their own. HEAR US wants to expand the definition and work on expanding help for homeless kids.
For too long, this country has failed millions of homeless families and teens. Current legislation--HR 1877 and S 808--proposes more of the same.
The definition of homelessness needs to be revised to reflect the uncertainties facing homeless families and teens--the proposed language is inadequate.
Families/teens are homeless and at grave risk when doubled-up, in motels, or couch surfing.
And HUD's secretary should not be allowed to exclude homeless kids in the street counts! HOMELESS KIDS DO COUNT!
I urge you to push for changes that reflect the growing and painful reality facing millions of homeless families and teens.
