My name is Xiyena,

This is the first and only year I am able to participate in my school’s homecoming dance. I ran for the position of Homecoming Queen along side my friends and community who helped me campaign. My friends and I invested time and resources into my election process . Only to find out on the day of voting I was dropped from running and blocked from participating in my hoco.  The reason I was suddenly dropped was a recent change in district policy that excluded students participating in school activities based on gpa. Because of my prior academic struggles during the COVID 19 pandemic, I worked hard to raise my Gpa during the summer taking a semesters worth of courses however these classes were assigned improperly providing no benefit to my Gpa.  I have been working hard to improve upon my academics and finish out my highschool years strong. I was making efforts to become a better student and put a lot of passion into my senior experience. Learning that our efforts were for nothing crushed both myself and my supporters. My circumstance is not unique and a competitor of mine was faced with the same situation. Please sign this petition to raise awareness and create change permitting myself and my opponent to be able to participate in homecoming.
