To become a British citizen, there are a number of steps one has to take for it to be 'official'. One of which is to prove our knowledge of the English language. For most of us this is achieved by successfully completing a B1 English test. However, our mastery of English is something that many of us can prove by passing GCSEs, A levels, a HNC or HND since this exceeds the standards expected in the B1 test.

However, the UK government does not accept these qualifications, and instead demands foreign nationals to pay £150 to complete their preferred (but alternative) examination. In addition, for some people, the certified test centers are not located in the town in which they live, meaning that to travel to the test centre and to take the test in person requires a day of annual leave to be used too.

As a result, we ask that the UK government should accept all qualifications at or above the B1 English test as proof of an acceptable level of skill in the English language since this will be of great help to anyone planning on becoming a British citizen.

Please sign and share this petition on all social media to reach at least 100,000 signatures. With 100,000 signatures we will be able to bring this matter into the UK Parliament for MPs to consider changing the rules.

If we manage to take this matter to Parliament, it will save time and money for us and for future applicants who have additional British qualifications.

All of us who would like to become UK citizens, please help by signing the petition. Even if you have already been through the process, this change could have a major benefit to others in a similar situation
