Protect society from crime by fully resourcing the police service

The police service is being restrained in it's ability to fight crime and keep our society safe. As an example, the police are expected to provide out-of-hours cover for social services which is not the work we want them to undertake. It takes several years to train officers and staff to the level required to combat the various threats to society from organised criminal gangs as well as potential and actual terrorists. These roles cannot be filled at short notice. Communities throughout the country are asking for more overt and covert teams on the ground but they do not exist in the numbers required. Even police officers are entitled to time off. The Government and, in particular, the Home Office must address this situation before it is too late.
