Lucy Hodge started this petition to home office and

Rubin Lala has lived with our family for 3 years. He is an unacommpanied asylum seaker whose application to remain in the UK has recently been refused even though the Home Office have recognised there is evidence he has been a victim of modern slavery in his home country Albania. He faces imminent deportation unless his appeal to the Home Office is sucessful. Please help by signing.

Rubin was sent to the UK by his mother when he was 15, against his own wishes, to escape a violent family situation in Albania. He arrived in Britain in the back of a lorry, completely alone. A car full of human traffickers dumped him on the outskirts of Oxford in the middle of the night with no contacts, no English language, and no money or possessions. Rubin was picked up by social services and given supported lodgings, he has been under my care since he arrived.

Rubin started language school and has worked very hard to achieve level 2 in English and Maths. His language skills are excellent and he communicates well. He is part of our family. My grandchildren adore him, he is a very kind and considerate boy. He is appreciative of everything that is given to him and has completed various charity events to raise money for UNICEF and our local hospice.

Rubin is now 18 and should be able to enjoy life of a boy his age, because of Home Office rules, he has not been able to learn to drive or work which he desperately wants to do. He wants to be an engineer and should Rubin get leave to remain he will be eligible to complete a three year college course in electrical engineering.

We received notification that his application to remain in the Uk was declined. We will be meeting his immigration lawyer this week to launch his appeal on the grounds of being a victim of modern slavery. As a result of Rubin's childhood and struggles he has suffered, he is undergoing counselling for PTSD.

We need the Home Office to reconsider this in light of the difficult circumstances surrounding Rubin's arrival in the UK, his current contribution to this society, and also the absolute uncertainty of what he would be going back to in Albania.  As a young man with so much ambition and talent, Rubin is a tremendous asset, and would give back tenfold to a nation and city that have looked after him so well.

Please help support Rubin.

Thank you from our family.
